GBWWTP Wins Wastewater System of the Year Award – Part 1

Greater Bayfield Wastewater Treatment Plant Wins Wastewater System of the Year

January 2026 will mark the twentieth year that the Greater Bayfield Wastewater Treatment Plant (GBWWTP) has operated 24/7 without a discharge of sewage to Lake Superior. No other waste treatment plant in our area can match this record. GBWWTP was built in the Town of Bayfield as a state-of-the-art treatment plant and continues its superior performance. It treats waste from the City of Bayfield and Pikes Bay Sanitary District (PBSD). It recently won the award for 2025 Wastewater System of the Year by the Wisconsin Rural Water Association! This is recognition of the excellent service record of the plant and its dedicated operators – Mike Burg and Joel Weber.
